Tech View: Nifty charts show bearish reversal; what traders should do on Friday
The Nifty is heading towards the upper end of the rising channel placed at 22700. On the downside the zone of 22350–22300 shall act as a crucial support from a short-term
perspective. Minor degree pullbacks towards support zones should be used as a buying opportunity, said Jatin Gedia, technical analyst at Sharekhan by BNP Paribas
The rupee remained within a very narrow range around 83.43, trading flat throughout the day as open positions were cleared on speculative orders following RBI’s new norms. The dollar index also exhibited flat behaviour, prompting the rupee to follow suit. Market attention is now focused on tomorrow’s RBI policy announcement, where an unexpected rate cut could potentially strengthen the rupee and provide positive momentum. The expected range for the rupee is between 83.25-83.60.

Nifty Bank rallies 1% ahead of MPC meet; HDFC Bank, Bandhan Bank rally over 3%
The Nifty Bank rose 1% on Thursday to reclaim the 48,000 mark, tracking positive global cues. The index rose 436 points to close at 48,060 while the Nifty 50 closed with gains of 80 points to hit a fresh record closing high of 22,515. It hit a record high of 22,619.
Market breadth displayed a positive trend within a narrow trading range, with attention focused on the RBI’s upcoming monetary policy announcement tomorrow. Expectations lean towards the likely status quo in the repo rate due to prevalent inflation worries. Meanwhile, the broader market has shown resilience in select sectors like banks in anticipation of decent Q4 results and exports based on composite PMI data reflecting strong business conditions.

From the beginning of 2024, Gold has been on a strong footing, having risen by ~6% as against the broader equity market ( Nifty 500) returning only ~4%. The slew of elections lined up in this fiscal year bodes well for Gold. The reason being that during times of uncertainties, investors tend to park their money in safer asset classes. As a lot of countries go into elections this year, Gold would likely remain in the spotlight. Not to mention, the strong institutional buying that Gold has witnessed over the past few years which in turn provides a solid support to this asset class.

Global markets watchdog proposes closer scrutiny of stock exchanges
Global securities watchdog IOSCO on Thursday proposed detailed guidance on how regulators should supervise stock exchanges more closely to negate risks from changes in business practices. “These may give rise to potential risks and challenges concerning the regulatory functions and responsibilities of exchanges, as well as supervisory issues,” IOSCO, which comprises securities regulators from across the world, said in a report.

RBI Policy Preview | Shraddha Umarji, Economist Institutional Research at Prabhudas Lilladher
Reserve Bank of India will likely keep repo rate unchanged at 6.5%. Stance will also be unchanged for better transmission of the delivered rate hikes (of 250 bps so far). Right now, food inflation is high so the biggest risk going ahead is monsoon. IMD has forecast normal monsoon for the year, so timely kharif sowing can bring down food inflation. Till then, RBI is unlikely to cut interest rates. The central bank will also take cues from what Fed and ECB are doing when it comes to rates. So it is unlikely that rate cuts will happen before October. However, RBI could change its stance to ‘neutral’ in June or August. Meanwhile, GDP growth for FY25 might be revised upwards to 7.3-7.4% from 7% earlier as all macroeconomic data has been robust.
