The scheduled works to the roof of the art gallery have resulted in the closure of the west wing, though the main hall and east wing will remain open to the public.
The restoration follows completion of the first phase of the works in November 2022, with the Main Hall’s copper roof being replaced.
The work comes as part of a £2.23m project, with the art gallery being granted funds by MEND, the Government’s Museum Estate and Development fund.

Phase two includes the installation of a new mechanical plant in the west wing to regulate the environment better.
In a statement on Southampton City Art Gallery’s website, a spokesperson said: “The gallery is entering into phase two of its planned repair works to keep the city’s nationally designated art collection safe and accessible.
“We are also reducing our running costs by improving the efficiency of the building.”
