A glimpse of the last edition of Artix.
Delhi is without a doubt one of the most culturally rich cities in the world. It is also the hub for art and culture, accessible to all. From street art to theatre festivals at the NSD, there is something for everyone in this city. And for art lovers, Delhi is all set to host the third chapter of Artix—a first-of-its-kind pan-India hotel art exhibition.
Payal Kapoor, Malvika Poddar, and Sethu Vaidyanathan are the forces behind Artix, which brings together art lovers, gallerists, and collectors.
Art fairs are immensely popular worldwide, particularly those held in hotels. After visiting hotel art fairs in Los Angeles, Paris, and Japan, Payal noticed their success abroad. “Inspired by these events, we decided to bring this concept to India, making it the first of its kind here,” she explains.
For the unversed, the concept of a Hotel Art fair involves transforming hotel rooms’ floors and walls into exhibition spaces. Beds are removed and each room is converted into exclusive art salons and galleries, showcasing a curated collection of artwork and live installations.
This concept fosters an intimate environment where buyers and sellers can easily engage in conversation. “When buyers see the artwork in such a setting, they can better envision it in their own spaces, creating an immersive experience,” Payal adds.
She further elaborates on how the idea evolved. “I discussed it with my partner and friend, Malvika Poddar, who agreed it was a great idea. She noted that there isn’t a high-end art fair where you can truly enjoy art in luxury. This led us to develop the concept further, enabling us to travel worldwide and showcase Indian art, culture, and tradition in all its glory.”
Malvika says, “Artix not just challenges the normative norms of traditional galleries but also provides a platform to explore the atmosphere of luxury and creativity. The transformation of hotel rooms into private preview spaces provides a unique experience where art enthusiasts can feel the vision of the artists.”
Some of the participating galleries at Artix 3.0 include Treasure Art Gallery, Artrise Art, 108 Art Projects, Bespoke Art Gallery, Ashvita, Art Nouveau, and Vision Art Gallery. The event will also feature artists like Aanchal Garg and Shobha Broota, along with private collectors such as Lekha Poddar and Ajay Gupta. Photographer Prarthana Modi will also be part of Artix.
The hotel art fair “celebrates all forms of art”, emphasises Sethu. “Artix is a travelling art affair that enables a dynamic display of art, artists, and associated verticals.”
