A tattoo studio owner is opening an art gallery to promote artists’ work and give Newark ‘something different’.
Chris De-Courcy opened Aces Tattoo Studio on 42 Cartergate, Newark in October last year.
With over 15 years of experience in tattooing and being an art and community fan, he has now decided to use the space upstairs to open an art gallery.
The gallery is due to open to the public on Tuesday, August 20.
Artists from the area will be displaying their art, varying from sculptures to paintings, and selling them at a reasonable price.
Another room on the top floor will be dedicated to Newark College art students to sell and display their work.
Chris said: “I wanted to do something different, something to get more of the community involved, and again, just somewhere for them to showcase their work, because there are a lot of fantastic artists around here.
“After viewing some of the other galleries in town, they’ve got some amazing pieces in but they’re very expensive, so we thought of doing something. We’ve got quite a few friends that are artists, so we just thought it would be an ideal place for them to showcase their work.
“The college students don’t often get many opportunities to showcase their work, other than within their college or to their family, there is social media but not many people look for art on social media.”
The gallery will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm, but closed on Thursdays.
Despite being located at the same premises as the tattoo studio, people can just walk in to visit the gallery on the top floor as it is open to the public.
Artists who wish to contact Chris about opportunities to exhibit their work can do so on Instagram at: @aces_artgallerynewark.
